Biography

Amanda has been a legal practitioner since 1982. Prior to commencing practice as a barrister in 2010, Amanda was Special Counsel in both a national law firm and a boutique law firm specialising in workplace relations and employment law. Whilst practising as a solicitor, Amanda was a member (and then, Chair) of the Queensland Law Society Workplace Relations Specialist Accreditation Advisory Committee.

At the Bar, Amanda practises predominantly in the areas of workplace relations and employment law including post-employment restraints, unfair dismissals, adverse action claims, industrial action, enforcement of employment obligations, and discrimination claims. She has practised at all levels of State and Federal jurisdiction in those matters. She also has experience in conducting workplace investigations.

Although Amanda’s primary practice is in workplace relations and employment law, she also has experience in the area of Administrative law and in Commissions of Inquiry.

Amanda has also had a career as an academic.  She held the position of Associate Professor in the Law School at Bond University for many years where she taught Employment and Industrial Relations Law and Administrative Law.  She has published a number of articles in the area of workplace relations and employment law in journals in Australia and overseas, and is a regular speaker at academic and industry conferences.

Amanda holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland and a Masters of Law from Bond University.
